[edit] Help request

I am trying to put the article The marrow of tradition up for deletion. The reason is that the page The Marrow of Tradition is a superior duplicate of the aforementioned page. However, the templates do not seem to be working. Can you tell me how, exactly, to do it? Thanks --Paul Haymon 06:40, 6 October 2006 (UTC)

Well spotted. Seeing as most people looking for the book may type the lower case, I've just made the worse page redirect to the better page, rather than flag the page for deletion. Of course, if you disagree, you can still petition for it to be deleted. Cheers, Dr Aaron 07:18, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
I just checked my redirect on The marrow of tradition, and it doesn't appear to work - maybe there is something funny with the page, or there is something up with my browser. I've put your helpme back on. Dr Aaron 07:33, 6 October 2006 (UTC)

Thank you. Actually, I think your redirect works. But I would like to delete the page anyway. Paul Haymon 08:18, 6 October 2006 (UTC)

Well, I think that the redirect is very useful, and in-line with Wikipedia tradition. A number of articles have redirect pages resulting from capitalization problems. I don't see any reason why this should be deleted. -- Merope Talk 14:30, 6 October 2006 (UTC)

Thanks, but I disagree. Why have two of the same page? I am planning to expand the good one, and having inferior duplicates is a waste of virtual space. It's inefficient, and it may cause problems for new users. I'm adding the helpme back. Paul Haymon 01:35, 7 October 2006 (UTC)

After some thought, the redirect, though not the best solution in my opinion, is probably good enough for this purpose. I've removed the helpme. Paul Haymon 01:42, 7 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] License tagging for Image:Cca logo.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Cca logo.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 10:04, 7 October 2006 (UTC)

Done. Paul Haymon 11:14, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] "Professional" Level of English

I didn't know such a category existed until today. I read the relevant talk page, and I agree with the sentiment that a "native" speaker of English doesn't necessarily understand how to speak/write the language (e.g.: not knowing the difference between their, there, and they're; constantly typing irritation-generators like tommorrow and alot; and the infamous 's at the end of every word). Mind you, these are all issues that ought to have been long since stomped out thoroughly by fifth grade. Thus, with no other recourse, I award myself the highest English credential on Wikipedia possible. Not vanity, just honesty. Sort of. Paul Haymon 11:27, 12 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Venus Fly Trap

Hi Paul - I reverted your edit to Venus fly trap (re: man eating plants) because the statement was false. There wasnt ever a man eating "venus fly trap" ancestor. MidgleyDJ 00:29, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

Hi again Paul, I still dont buy it - but I'm more than prepared to be proven wrong. I think what we do need is a better/actual reference than that site. We need something published somewhere. A plant of the kind described would have made major science news. My brief googling has come up empty! Which again suggests it might be a red herring. Hope this helps. MidgleyDJ 02:21, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
Hello once more. I run Gullible.info and I can confirm that everything on the site is fabricated and almost certainly not true, including that bit about the fly trap ancestors. Kylestoneman 16:02, 18 October 2006 (UTC)

Blast... it's true, Gullible.info is a sham. But the question is, is this the real Kyle Stoneman? Paul Haymon 11:05, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] WP:MWA

Hi, in response to your question in the edit summary in WP:MWA, yes, blue links can be removed entirely. Strike through is used for if there's a non-existent article listed that no longer has many back links. Tra (Talk) 13:16, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:Enrique.gif)

Thanks for uploading Image:Enrique.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. [edit] Invitation

I've noticed your contributions to articles such as Oakland Public Library and McClymonds High School, and I thought you might be interested in this WikiProject.

You have been invited to join the WikiProject San Francisco Bay Area, a collaborative effort focused on improving Wikipedia's coverage of the Bay Area. If you'd like to join, just add your name to the member list. Thanks for reading!

If you have any questions, reply on my talk page.

[edit] Welcome

Hi, Paul Haymon, and welcome to WikiProject
San Francisco Bay Area
!

We are a growing community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to identifying, categorizing, and improving articles relevant to the Bay Area. Here are some points that may be helpful:

  • Our main aim is to help improve Bay Area-related articles, so if people ask for help with an article, please try your hardest to help them if you are able.
  • Most important discussions take place on the project's main discussion page. It is highly recommended that you watchlist it.
  • The project has several ongoing and developing activities, such as article quality assessment, which you are welcome to participate.
  • Our system for improving lower-quality articles is Jumpaclass. If you'll be editing stub, start, or B-class articles, consider using Jumpaclass to track your progress.
  • If you have another language besides English, please consider adding yourself to our translation section, to help us improve our foreign Bay Area topics.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask on the talk page, and we will be happy to help you.

Again, welcome! We hope you enjoy working on this project.

[edit] Collaborate?

Would you like to collaborate on Oakland Public Library for the WP:SFBA Jumpaclass? All the details of how it works are on the Jumpaclass page. I'm inviting you to a joint collaboration (see under Variations), considering that's basically what we're doing with that article anyway. — Emiellaiendiay 07:22, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Oops, sorry!

Hi. I totally apologise for dyking out your links on the McClymonds page. I put them back. But I'll bet there are some better ones, I'll look around. Thanks for your work on the page and no hard feelings, I hope!

ps.. yeah, I really should get a real account ... :) —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 70.231.227.235 (talkcontribs).

[edit] Ref Tags

Hi Paul. I've seen some really fancy and complicated "ref tag" formats on Wikipedia. But 90% of the time, it's fine to just do this:

<ref>[http://www.yahoo.com Yahoo.com]</ref>

Here's how it looks in an article...

Yahoo is a neat site.[1]

[edit] John Donne image

Thank you for offering assistance. I still am interested in the image and I'm think it's public domain, owing to being made back in the 17th century. Galanskov 17:13, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
