When did this award become known as the Bear Bryant award? I assume it wasn't known as such when it began in 57, as Bryant still had his glory days ahead of him at that time. User:Havardj

You are correct to wonder. The award did not get its name until after Bryant died in 1983 of a hear attack. Although not entirely clear, the award may have simply been the National Coach of the Year Award.--Tlmclain | Talk 23:17, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
