His football career started in one little club called SC Lourinhanense where he moved to Sporting Lisabon from - his first bigger club(1999), but after that year his career never flowing so good nor consistantly. Moreover, he never lasted longer than one season in one club (exception is Bordeaux), so as a result he changed many clubs from Sporting, then Alverca, Reggina, Porto, Venezia, Bordeaux, Gil Vicente and then Aris. Three moments in his career are important and interesting to remember:

1. One club where he spent more than a year (before come to Thessaloniki) is only Bordeaux, in this club he played in 2 occassions, because of the fact that he was on loan to Gil Vicente, a Portuguese team, and then came back , but he never impressed there, n after that was sent to Thessaloniki to help a second division struggling hystorical club of Aris Thessaloniki in January 2006. Aris, who started bizarrely the second division season, but imroved their game and results under Nikos Anastopoulos, in January looked much better, but they needed few players in the winter transfer period to strenghten their side in order to retain in good position and secure the first 3 spots to come back where they deserve to be. Paulo Costa, Kouloucheris from Greek champions Olympiakos, Sebastian Flores from Uruguay and Nikos Skarmoutsos from Atromitos, also to include Petros Philippakos, are the people who came in order to help Aris in fulfilling the mission of come back. Not all of them were helpful but Paulo Costa,Kouloucheris and Skarmoutsos in shadow with one crucial goal in closing moments of the season. Paulo Costa, who didnt need the ages to adapt in Aris, sooner became a starter and one of the key figures in Aris midfield. In that time, in January, Costa signed a contract with Aris for that current season untill the end (including next one). His contract expires soon, in the summer 2007 and expected to be extended. Not many talks about it, but its not a secret that there were the contacts and some talks about keeping the cooperation with Aris a couple of months ago, but yet to be concluded n solved... Paulo Costa, certainly the best Aris player this season, together with Artilleryman Koke, are considered to be one of the best partnerships/duos in Greece. Its well known that both cooperate well together, especially seen some great through passes and assists from him towards Artilleryman in the championchip this year, and if u add some goals to his account,it has been talked about, certainly, one of the best players in league...

2. The second important moment to remember in his career is the trial in Milan giants Inter few yrs ago, but he never succeded. However, stayed in Italy when he signed for Reggina Calcio.

3. Last moment to remember, we can say the third one,is this season in Aris. Portuguese right footed midfielder, who enjoys the 4th position of the table with his club right now, is certainly MVP currently in Aris with goals n assists to his account, the man who doesnt bother playing even in attacking wing positions (left one) where he has played mostly this season. Pretty skillful, great awareness on the pitch, high confidence, great touch and the biggest weapon now is his accurate n quite strong shot same time. This new attacking generation of Aris, who has plans to fly so high in the following years, needs him more than anyone... cuz he has a huge amount of fans behind, who expect and hope to see him next year in yellow jersey.
