Paulo Lins

Paulo Lins is a professor at the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro. Lins grew up in Rio de Janeiro and at the age of seven moved to the Cidade de Deus favela. He escaped the cycle of violence to become a successful writer. He published his novel City of God in 1997, which was adapted into the 2002 movie City of God by Fernando Meirelles and Katia Lund, and was co-produced by Walter Salles, director of Motorcycle Diaries and Central do Brasil (film) (released as Central Station)
