Paulie Gatto(1910-1945) is a fictional character appearing in Mario Puzo's novel The Godfather and the first part of The Godfather Movie directed by Francis Ford Coppola. He was portrayed by John Martino.
Paulie Gatto begins as a Corleone soldier working for Capo Pete Clemenza. Paulie is also responsible for the attempted murder of Don Corleone in the beginning in the movie as well as Sollozzo because the Don didn't want to be part of Solozzo's drug business.
Paulie Gatto is assassinated by Clemenza's Soldier Rocco Lampone. Clemenza tries to clear Paulie's mind of the shooting of the Don by informing him that the acting Don of the Corleone Family at the time, Santino Corleone "is ready to go to the mattresses already", and he tells Paulie to stop in the middle of a field to urinate. Once he was outside, Rocco pulls a gun behind Paulie's head and shoots three times in Paulie's head, killing him instantly.
In The Godfather: The Game, the character is ordered by Clemenza to chase Paulie into an area filled with shipping containers and kill him. The character is then awarded Paulie's Brooklyn apartment/safehouse.
