Paula Aboud

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Paula Aboud is an American politician from Arizona, currently serving in the Arizona State Senate.

An activist for the Tucson Democratic Party, she was appointed to the State Senate by the Pima County Board of Supervisors on 3 January 2006 following the resignation of Senator (now Congresswoman) Gabrielle Giffords. She represents the 28th legislative district, centering on Tucson.

One of Arizona's few openly gay or lesbian public officials, she was elected in her own right in 2006. In the Democratic primary election on September 12, she saw off a challenge from state Rep. Ted Downing and faced no Republican opponent in the general election. Her campaign won the backing of the Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund. [1]
