Paul Strauss is a "shadow senator" from the District of Columbia.

Strauss was first elected to this position in 1996 and then re-elected again in 2002. On May 31, 2006 he stepped down from this position to run for the open seat in the Ward 3 D.C. City Council. He ended up losing the election, but continues to serve as shadow senator.
