Paul Nakad

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Paul Nakad (a.k.a. Sleek the Elite) is an Australian hip-hop artist and actor.

Born in Eastwood, New South Wales. Paul Nakad grew up in the Ryde area eventually leaving school at the age of sixteen. He became a refrigeration and air-conditioning technician but spent all his spare time writing music and constantly gigging in small clubs and on community radio and steadily building his form as a unique Lebanese Australian Hip-Hop voice as Sleek The Elite. This street-cred and his poetic turn of phrase, freestyle technique, and audience support culminated in 1997 when he recorded his first album Sleekism. DJ Soup provided Sleek's unique sample-laden music with groovy, funky hard hitting beats as well as production. The mix was beyond original and the small print run was quickly exhausted. "Child Of The Cedar" quickly became a quasi-anthem for the Lebanese Australian community.

If 1997 was a milestone for Paul, then 1998 continued the trend when he landed his first acting role in Paul Fenech's short film Basic Equipment and then later Fenech's feature film Somewhere in the Darkness. Paul together with Fenech took the Sleek The Elite persona further than the community airwaves by playing "himself" in Fenech's hit comedy series Pizza screening in 2000 and 2001 on SBS TV. In 2000 Madcap Records reissued Sleekism with altered artwork but with no content alterations.

In 2003 Paul would appeared in the feature film Fat Pizza: The Movie after the release of the movie version of the popular series, Sleek left the team and decided to focus on his rap career releasing Hard For A Rapper in 2004. Sleek also teamed up with Nick Giannopoulos appearing in Wog Story. While the show was running in Melbourne, Paul Nakad shared a dressing room with Anh Do. Do was working on the script of the film Footy Legends and created the role of Walid especially for Paul. Currently, Sleek is applying his trade as a refrigeration and air-condition technician at the Queensland University of Technology.

In 2007 rumours of new album are surfacing via his MySpace.com website (see External Links).
