Paul Mounsey

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Paul Mounsey is a musician from Scotland. He recently composed a song called "Senses" especially for the Visit Scotland television commercial. Senses is an edited version of the original song "North", from his album Nahoo Too.

Paul Mounsey is an honours graduate from Trinity College London (where he not only met and studied with Michael Nyman, but also met his Brazilian wife Dorinha). He lectured for a short while at Goldsmiths College before moving on as creative director of Play It Again, one of the biggest commercial music houses in Brazil.

He has lived in Brazil for about 15 years and found similarities between traditional Scottish folk music and Brazilian music, of which he wrote the following in the liner notes to his first album "Nahoo", "I have always been struck by the inherent groove in many Scottish folk tunes. 'Nahoo' is an attempt to present this folk tradition using contemporary pop styles other than conventional rock. It is quite possible that many will be offended by such treatment, but I've never felt that folk music belongs in a museum."

Mounsey also worked on two Runrig albums, "The Stamping Ground" (2001) and "Proterra" (2003).

To date, Paul Mounsey has released 5 solo albums:

  • Nahoo (1994)
  • NahooToo (1997)
  • Nahoo 3 - Notes from the Republic (1999)
  • City of Walls (2003)
  • Tha Na Laithean a' Dol Seachad (The Days Flash Past) (2006)
