Paul Le Claire is a member of the States of Jersey.

He stood for election in a Senatorial by-election in February 1999, coming second to Jerry Dorey with 1,811 votes.

He then stood in the Deputorial by-election (caused by the elevation of Jerry Dorey to the Senatorial benches) in St Helier District #1 in April 1999. He won support during the elections in October 1999 and was returned as a Senator (4th in poll with 8,287 votes) and was one of those ousting Jerry Dorey from the Senatorial benches in that election.

In 2005, he was a founder member of, firstly, the Jersey Democratic Alliance but upon the stepping down of Senator Ted Vibert and the subsequent election of a more left-leaning leadership he left to form the Centre Party. He failed to gain re-election as a Senator in the Jersey general election, 2005, polling ninth of fifteen candidates (top six candidates elected).

He was successfully elected as an independent candidate in the Deputorial round of the elections the following month by the residents of St Helier District #1 topping the poll to return to the Deputies' benches, representing his former district.
