Paul Hecht

Paul Hecht (b. August 16, 1941) is a British stage, film, and television actor.

Hecht was born in London, England.

He was nominated in 1968 for a Tony Award as Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Play for his appearance in Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead. In addition to other television projects, he has been a frequent guest star since 1992 on Law & Order and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, most often playing doctors.

He grew up in Brooklyn, NY with his mother, Rayla and sister, Miriam. Attended Hunter College in NY and served the United States Army in the Viet Nam War. He met and married Jacqueline Graham in New York, NY and soon after moved to Alaska where he lived for the rest of his life. Hecht was a featured player on the successful "CBS Radio Mystery Theater" from 1974-1982. He has also lended his voice to countless recordings of audiobooks.

During his life in Alaska, he became a carpenter, father of Holly and Aaron, and sports official extrordinaire. He umpired softball in Kenai, AK eventually becoming Umpire in Chief. He umpired little league in Soldotna, AK. He refereed basketball, volleyball, and wrestling. He was a member of the Soldotna Elks Lodge, and Bed and Breakfast Association. He was a member of the Carpenter's Union and also owned Roundhorn Construction. He built and remodeled numerous houses, businesses and schools on the Kenai Peninsula and in Anchorage, AK.

He and his second wife, Sandra established the Sterling Needle Bed and Breakfast in 1999 where he lived until his death in 2004. He was diagnosed with Colon Cancer in 2003 and succumbed to it a year later.

Paul is buried in the Kenai Cemetary next to the softball fields he loved so much. He is survived by his first wife, Jacqueline, their children Holly and Aaron, his second wife Sandra, and his Sister Miriam. He was preceded in death by his Father Leon, and Mother Rayla.
