Paul Grant

Paul Grant (1943 - November 23, 2003, was a British bodybuilder. He was born as a twin in Wales in 1943. He left school at 16 and began working with his own bread delivery business whilst training with weights to increase his muscle mass.

Grant was famous in the 1970s, the so called 'golden era' of bodybuilding for winning Mr. Europe and Mr. World titles and going on to win the Mr. Universe event [1] Grant had a 50 inch chest and a 33 inch waist and beat Lou Ferrigno, bodybuilder and actor who played The Hulk in the hit TV series.
Appearing in the film Pumping Iron in 1977 alongside Ferrigno and Arnold Schwarzenegger, he is shown both backstage and onstage and training at Gold's Gym where he memorably says to Schwarzenneger, 'Thanks for forgetting all about me', possibly pertaining to Arnold's absence from the gym for a long period.

Grant stopped bodybuilding in 1984 after being diagnosed with a rare kidney illness. As a result of disease he spent three days a week on a kidney dialysis machine. He underwent a kidney transplant in 1985 and continued with his work as the president of the Welsh Federation of Bodybuilders which he occupied for 25 years. Paul Grant died 2003 aged 60 years[2]. He is survived by his wife, Christine Mason, a former Miss Universe Bikini winner.
