Paul Coble

Paul Y. Coble (born October 19, 1953 in Raleigh, North Carolina) served one term as Mayor of Raleigh from December 1999 to December 2001.

A graduate of Wake Forest University, Coble served on the City Council from 1993 to 1999. Like his predecessor Tom Fetzer, he was a conservative Republican. During his term as Mayor, the city recovered from a record 25-inch snow storm and opened the Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts.

Charles Meeker, a Democrat, defeated Coble in his attempt for a second term.

In November 2006, Coble was elected to the Wake County Board of Commissioners.

In private life, Coble is in the insurance business. He is a nephew of Senator Jesse Helms. He is married to Connie Coble and has two beautiful daughters, Courtney and Paige.
