Patty the Phantom Thief is a fictional character in Capcom's Breath of Fire II video game. She has blue hair in a ponytail, bat wings, and wears a pink outfit. The party bumps into her several times throughout the game.
[edit] Game Events
The player first meets Patty in Hometown; while searching for Bow she'll run into you and run off. When you finally do find Bow he will explain in a flashback that before he could rob Trout's place, it was already robbed by a bat-winged girl. After securing Bow at the hideout, Ryu goes out on a journey to locate the real thief. This leads the player to Corsair, Hometown's Magic School, Wyndia, Capitan, and finally Sima Fort. In Sima Fort, she is found in the dungeon since she tried to steal the royal treasure. After the events of Sima Fort, she happily comes along with your party back to Hometown to clear Bow's name (while in the dungeon she was forced to harvest cockroaches and she simply despises them). After making it back to Hometown she declares that she only steals from bad people, and that Trout really has a bunch of thieves locked up in his dungeon that he forces to steal for him. After searching his home and finding nothing she is locked up in Trout's dungeon, but following a hunch Bow (and possibly Ryu as well) sneak into Trout's dungeon and find what Patty said to be true. They then defeat Trout (who turns out to really be a demon) and rescue Patty and the other prisoners. Patty reveals her name, apologizes for framing Bow, and hands over the magic hood (the item Kilgore had Bow try to steal back for him).
Later, when the party makes it to Cot Land they are told to go to Thieves Tomb (a place where thieves go to prove themselves) to locate the "Evidence" to help fund the rebel's mission. It is here that you find Patty in a trap. After rescuing her, she tells you that she is trying to become the world's greatest thief and runs off to the final chamber, where she opens the chest and finds nothing. She then wanders around the chamber acting quite flummoxed while the party investigates the treasure, at which point Patty literally bumps into you and runs off. Upon your arrival back at Cot Land, you find yourselves empty-handed; Patty stole from you. Luckily, it is revealed that Patty is Cot Land's sponsor and she was in Thieves Tomb to get funding. While the members of the rebels go out on their mission, Patty stays behind, declaring that as the sponsor she doesn't fight.
Near the end of the game, the people of Gate believe that the dragon is draining the energy out of the forest and try to remove the dragon with explosives. Their memories had been erased ten years ago, and they no longer remember that the dragon helped save them from demons years ago. After failing to dislocate the dragon, they realize their mistake as several demons come flying out of the gate that the dragon helped to keep closed. It is at this point that Father Hulk, the St. Eva priest in Gate, tells you to go find Patty, as she knows about the dragon and can help. The party then goes to several different places to find her, eventually ending up in Township where she is in Ryu's room. Upon hearing your story, she thanks you for telling her and rushes to Gate. Following her to Gate, she tells the villagers that the Dragon is weak but still alive and is on their side. Father Hulk reveals himself to be Habaruku and states that he tried to remove the Dragon to open the gate to Infinity and unleash the demon Deathevn (St. Eva's "god"). When that failed, he decided to use Patty instead for the blood of a Dragon clansman is needed, indicating that Patty is also of the Dragon Clan. As he tries to kill Patty, she yells out "I want my big brother," at which point the dragon awakens and saves her. The party then does battle with Haburuku and defeats him. Though alive, Patty does not make another appearance in the game (however in the GBA version, if you get the "good" ending there will be a scene of Patty in a tree outside of Gate).
[edit] Identity
It is widely believed that Patty is in fact Ryu's long lost little sister Yua, and there are many pieces of evidence which help support this theory (the main being that Ryu's mother was the only dragon to ascend to the above world aside from Ray... meaning that any other dragon on the surface is most likely her child). Near the end of the game it is revealed that she knows a great deal about the dragon in Gate, that she is a dragon clansmen herself, and she declares "I want my big brother" (most likely indicating Ryu). The only people who knew about the dragon were the people of Gate, but everyone in gate (other than their father Ganer, Ryu, and Yua) had their memories erased by a demon. Ryu was napping under the dragon while Ganer and Yua where heading back to town when a demon from St. Eva attacked, erased the memories of the townspeople, and captured Ganer. Ganer then tells Yua to run off, and she luckily manages to escape. Had Patty not been Yua, it is very unlikely that she would have known about the dragon. It is also important to note that Patty was the sponsor of the Cot Land rebel group. Most people in the game are either indifferent to St. Eva or a part of it (though most of the members of St. Eva know nothing of its true purpose). If Patty was Yua, it would give her reason to believe that St. Eva was evil since her father was kidnapped by them. Also, at one point in the game if you talk to Nina in Township she states how she thinks Patty and Ryu look alike.
