Patrona Halil İsyanı (d. November 25, 1730), an Albanian and attendant in a hammam in the Ottoman capital of Istanbul, was the instigator of a mob uprising in 1730 which replaced Sultan Ahmed III with Mahmud I. This was the only example of an Ottoman uprising which did not originate with the Janissary corps; it marked an end to the prosperous Tulip Era. Patrona Halil was assassinated soon after the uprising.
