Patriots Video News

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Patriots Video News (also known as "PVN") is a 10 minute newscast about the New England Patriots football team available exclusively on the Comcast cable system in their On Demand section. The show is only available in the New England region. New shows are made available Monday-Friday during the season, and every Wednesday (and anytime big news breaks) during the off-season. It features game highlights, analysis, stats, and interviews with players and coaches from the locker-room and off of the field.

The show was the brainchild of Patriots' Vice Chairman and President Jonathan Kraft and Fred Kirsch, the Director of Interactive Media. J. Trent Adams, then a consultant for TVisions, was brought on board to design and produce the show. When it started, in July 1997 as Patriots Cybersideline on the team's official website, patriots.com, it was the first nightly, direct-to-digital video news show in the world. It was made available for free in the RealVideo streaming format at a time when internet video was rare. The first shows were hosted by a member of the media relations staff, Caroline Jones with pieces being submitted by reporters Bryan Morry and Mike Reiss, who also worked for the in-house newspaper, Patriots Football Weekly. The current host is Brian Lowe who has been on the job since August 2003.

On October 10, 2005 the show moved from the team website to TV. From then until January 2007, it was exclusively available from the NFL - Patriots Menu of Comcast's On Demand section in New England. The show was replaced weeks later on the Patriots website by Patriots Today! which was hosted by Patriots' cheerleader Lori Baranski. Following the Patriots' elimination from the playoffs, PVN returned to the team website. On March 9, 2007 it took the Patriots Today name and graphics, with Lowe continuing as host.
