Career
When he joined Fall Out Boy, Stump had never sung for a band before nor had he had singing lessons.[1] He first met Joe Trohman at a Borders, however, upon the formation of Fall Out Boy, he took on lead vocal duties and later, when an early guitar player quit days before their first tour, he began to play guitar along with singing for the band.
In 2001, he co-founded the pop-punk band Fall Out Boy with Joe Trohman and Pete Wentz, with Andy Hurley later joining the band.
In 2003, Stump and his band mates signed with Island Records, also releasing an acoustic EP called My Heart Will Always Be the B-Side to My Tongue and DVD, in 2004.
On May 3, 2005, Fall Out Boy released their major label debut and third full-length album, From Under the Cork Tree,[2] which debuted on the Billboard 200 at #9, selling over 70,000 copies in its first week, and soon thereafter achieving Double Platinum status. Their first single, "Sugar We're Goin' Down", peaked at #8 on the Billboard Hot 100" and reached #1 on MTV's TRL, where the video was retired. The video also won the MTV2 Award at the 2005 MTV Video Music Awards. The band was nominated for "Best New Artist" at the 2006 Grammy Awards.
February 6, 2007 was the release date for Fall Out Boy's fourth full-length album, Infinity On High. The album leaked on the internet before the official release date.[3]
Producer
As a producer, Stump has worked with The Hush Sound and Gym Class Heroes.
Guest vocal appearances include Gym Class Heroes' "Clothes Off!,and "Cupid's Chokehold"[4], October Fall's "Second Chances," Knockout's "Breakaway," Motion City Soundtrack's "Everything Is Alright," The Hush Sound's "Don't Wake Me Up," and Misery Signals' "One Day I'll Stay Home."[5]
Trivia
Stump and fellow-band member Joe Trohman practice guitar riffs of Pantera's guitarist Dimebag Darrell.
Stump warms up by singing a finger-snapping imitation of Nat "King" Cole's version of Almost Like Being in Love.
Stump once said, "According to my Wikipedia, I'm a tenor, which isn't physically possible." Stump said this with an interview on MTV for Infinity Flight 206, a 3 shows in one day event marking the release date, February 6th, of Infinity On High.
