[edit] Early life

Patrick Whitty was born in Waterford in 1894, the son of Dr. Patrick Joseph Whitty. He was educated at St. Vincent's College, Castleknock and trained as an accountant.

[edit] Brief political career

In 1916, he was elected to the British House of Commons at a by-election, as Member of Parliament for the constituency of North Louth. He was aged just 21, becoming the youngest MP at the time.

The constituency was abolished in 1918, and Whitty retired from Parliament at the General Election later that year, thus becoming one of the youngest persons to leave the House of Commons in modern times.
