[edit] Life

Patrick Joseph Barry was born on January 14, 1981 (although some sources claim his date of birth as 1982). His father was a truck driver and his mother was a French immigrant.

The family had a difficult time making ends meet and, soon after his birth, the family returned to France. The family moved into the countryside surrounding Poitiers, France, with his father working as a blacksmith.

Upon returning to the United States in the mid 1980s, his father joined the U.S. Navy. As such, the family moved every three years, making it difficult to develop lasting friendships.

By his teenage years, the family had moved to Jacksonville, Florida, where they would stay permanently. By eighth grade, Barry had saved enough money to buy his first video camera, a Samsung VHS camcorder, which he used religiously.

Throughout high school, Barry set his friends to work helping his on his early short films. During this time, he also served as cartoonist for the Jacksonville newspaper, The Florida Times-Union.

After high school, Barry attended Florida State University. He declined an invitation to study film at the University of Southern California for financial reasons.

[edit] Trivia

  • Film composer James Sizemore often scores Barry's films.
  • Sometimes credited simply as P. Barry in his films.
  • Barry received a letter from legendary runner Bill Rodgers(Olympian and 4-Time winner of the Boston Marathon) after he caught a screening of A Swiftly Fading Spirit which said "I can empathize with the young protagonist. All runners know about dodging a car on the run and struggling to survive financially as a post-collegiate runner...the young runner tried to overcome so many obstacles, (and) he stuck to his guns...It's a very gutty movie, just like the sport."
