Patriarch Nicholas III of Constantinople

Nicholas III Grammaticus was an Eastern Orthodox patriarch of Constantinople (10841111).

He combatted doctrinal heresy. Nicholas condemned as heretical the Bogomil leader Basil the Physician. As a patriarch he was in favour of Church union, but rejecting any compromise with Catholics. Nicholas wrote a monastic Rule for Mt. Athos monastery.
