Pat Mulcahy (born 1975) is an Irish sportsman. He plays hurling for Cork and is Captain of the team for 2006.
Pat Mulcahy was born in Newtownshandrum, County Cork in 1975. A network analyst by profession he currently plays club hurling with Newtownshandrum and inter-county hurling with Cork. He made his first appearance at inter-county level in 1995, lining out at full-back against Tipperary in the Munster championship. A year later in 1996 he played at centre-back on the Newtownshandrum team that won the Cork Intermediate Hurling Championship and later played on the divisional Avondhu team that won the Cork Senior Hurling title. He won an All-Ireland intermediate medal in 1997 but still had to wait for a call onto the senior team in spite of Mulcahy playing a key role when 'Newtown' won the Cork Senior Hurling Championship in 2000.
After a good performance in the subsequent inter-county National Hurling League Mulcahy finally made his debut for the Cork senior team in the Munster Championship against Limerick in 2001. On that occasion he replaced the injured Brian Corcoran. Mulcahy played no part in the 2002 Championship but he was restored to favour under the new manager, Donal O'Grady, in 2003. Although Cork lost the All-Ireland final that year Mulcahy claimed a third County Senior Hurling medal with Newtown. A Munster Club Championship medal followed and in 2004 Mulcahy claimed an All-Ireland Senior Club Hurling Championship medal. In 2005 Mulcahy made a breakthrough onto the team, replacing the injured Wayne Sherlock at corner-back and is the current captain for the 2006 Championship.
