Pastonian interglacial
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Pastonian interglacial is the name for an early Pleistocene glacial stage used in the British Isles. It preceded the Beestonian stage and followed the Pre-Pastonian glaciation.
It appears to have been a warm phase and occurred between around 600,000 and 800,000 years ago. Deciduous woodland, increased including species such as Hornbeam (Carpinus), Elm (Ulmus), Hazel (Corylus) and Spruce (Picea). Towards the end of the period, there is evidence for a fall in sea levels and an increase in grassland species.
