Pasila

Pasila (Böle in Swedish former Fredriksberg) is a suburb in Helsinki, Finland. It is a central-northern district, bordering Kallio to the south, Central Park (Keskuspuisto) to the west and Vallila to the east.
Pasila is thought of being divided into two parts: western and eastern.
Eastern Pasila is a commercially active district with its own railway station, a Holiday Inn hotel and the Helsinki Fair Centre. It is also home to over 3500 people. Most of the buildings in Eastern Pasila are built in the 1970s and are made of concrete. Major schools in the area are ATK-institute and Helsinki Business Polytechnic Helia.
Western Pasila is mainly a residential district and it has been built in the 1980s. In Western Pasila live approximately 4500 people. The buildings in Western Pasila are made of tile.
Pasila is one of the most liked suburbs in Helsinki, because it is located near the downtown of Helsinki (only 5min by train), and the rents are much lower compared to the downtown area.
Before the Pasila-suburb was built, there were old wooden houses in the whole Pasila area and the area was called Wooden Pasila (Puu-Pasila in Finnish). Today only a few of the old wooden houses still exist.
