Pasha Bordello

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Pasha Bordello (Pascha Bordell in German) is a large multi level Eros center (Brothel) in Hornstrasse, Cologne Germany located away on industrial estate. It was Europe's largest indoor Red-light district (120 rooms according to its publicity) before the opening of the Artemis in Berlin Germany.[1][2]

Before the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany, Muslims protested that the Brothel insulted Islam when the Brothel advertised using a 24-meter-high by 8-meter-wide poster, mounted on the side of its 7-storey building, containing a bikini-clad woman and all the flags from all of the countries which qualified for the world cup such as Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Tunisia. The slogan on the poster read "Die Welt zu Gast bei Freundinnin" ("The world makes girlfriends"), a pun on the slogan for that year's World Cup, "Die Welt zu Gast bei Freunden" ("The world makes friends"). The protestors compared the poster to the Jyllands-Posten Muhammad cartoons.[2][3]

In response to the protests, and threats of violence, which began on 2006-04-21, the owners first took down the flags of Saudi Arabia and Iran, and then blacked out the flag of Tunisia.[2]
