[edit] Synopsis

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

Since the Dome City residents have begun to hurt themselves, Mario decides to fix the problem by "reinventing" the telephone in case of an emergency (breaking a coconut and connecting the halves together with a vine). Luigi, however, has serious doubts about the phone business by saying "I hope they don't decide to reach out and touch someone at the same time."

The next scene shows Princess Toadstool as a telephone operator. Mario and Luigi are walking through Dome City, and they notice the damage they have done. All the cavepeople are too busy "gossiping" to do anything, even water their crops. Dome City is then invaded by a pack of Wigglers looking for food. Luigi tries to call for help, but the line is busy. The Bros. have no other choice but to hide in a nearby tree. Luckily, Luigi grabs a Starman and becomes invincible, so he flings the Wigglers into the tree into outer space.

After that, the Mario Bros. untangle the Princess from a nasty brush of vines. Then, they see that a hungry dinosaur is also rampaging through the city. Mario tries to defeat it. The dinosaur gives chase all the way to 12 "?" blocks that Mario desperately hits. In the process, Mario ends up getting hit on the head, but luckily manages to grab one of three Starmen circling his head as an effect of that. He then throws the dinosaur into space where the Wigglers are eating a comet.

Luigi and the Princess take the phones away from the cavepeople as Yoshi eats the vines.

[edit] Trivia/Goofs

  • The vine only connected two coconuts, yet the cavepeople can talk to anyone they want to.
  • Some of the cavepeople talked on phones that were wireless, where in this cartoon it would be technically impossible.
  • Mario was called by the names of two famous people, Alexander Graham Mario and Mario Da Vinci.
  • When Mario says "You're gonna feel a lot guiltier if I end up as caterpillar chow!", the initial on his hat is on the far left.
  • Whenever Mario and Luigi grab a Starman, their outlines move.
  • When Mario is hitting the 12 "?" Blocks, if you look closely in the next shot, the second block on the second row is back in its original form.
  • How Mario grabs the Starman (from one of the stars that was spinning around his head) was also done in the Super Mario Bros. Super Show episode "Pirates of Koopa".
  • This is the only episode in this series where neither Bowser nor the Koopalings appear nor are mentioned.
  • Yoshi fell on his head, yet he managed to get the bruise near his tail.
  • This, and Mama Luigi, are the only two episodes in this series where Luigi actually gets a superpower himself (a starman). In all other episodes, Mario gets all the superpowers.
  • When the dinosaur spits fire at Mario, Luigi, and Yoshi, it actually jumps through the building, not behind it.
  • When the caveman swings from the vine and crashes into the tree, four coconuts fall. In the next shot, we only see three!
  • When the coconut hits Yoshi and breaks on his head, it has a green top on one half. When Mario picks it up, it's not there. Then the next shot has the green top back and then both halves have the same green top!
  • When Luigi points up to the floating blocks, they are first shown brown and there are two of them. When Mario tries to reach them, they're yellow and there are three of them!
  • When Luigi throws the Wigglers into the tree, he throws up three. Then in the next shot, four are caught in the tree. When Luigi pulls the tree down, seven are in the tree. In the space scene, there are seven, but when the fireball comes, there are five!
  • When Mario falls down dizzily trying to reach the Cape Feather, one of the blocks on the top row that was yellow is now brown!
  • When Luigi says his last line in this episode, the "L" on his cap is white on a black background!
  • After Mario plugs up the purple dinosaur, it turns blue!
  • When Luigi reaches for the Starman, the power-up sound is heard before he touches the Starman!
  • The second time you see Princess' desk, it's brown instead of gray!
  • When Mario says "I've got it" in the beginning, the "L" on Luigi's cap is white on a black background!
  • When Luigi puts away the phone bill, the white background on his cap turns black!
  • When Yoshi trips over the already hit ? Block, it disappears for the rest of the scene!
  • The dinosaur in this episode also appears in "Mama Luigi" as one of Yoshi's "parents".
  • A couple of times in this episode, the "L" on Luigi's cap is upside-down.
  • After Oogtar talks to Mario and Luigi, the letters on their caps disappear for a brief second.
