Partridge Family 2200 A.D. was an animated television series based on The Partridge Family, which had just been cancelled by ABC a week before, after being beaten by CBS' All in the Family and NBC's Emergency!. This version started out as Hanna-Barbera's updated version of The Jetsons , where Elroy was now a teen-ager, and Judy now had a steady job as an ace reporter. But CBS discarded the idea, deciding to make an animated edition of The Partridge Family instead, which saw the family propelled into the future. The series featured new characters Veenie (Keith's Venusian friend) and Marion (Laurie's Martian friend). Danny had a pet robot dog named Orbit. (Shirley Jones and David Cassidy did not voice their animated counterparts.)

16 half-hour intallments were produced for Partridge Family 2200 A.D., which lasted for half a season on CBS Saturday morning (September 7, 1974 - March 8, 1975); in 1977, on the syndicated Fred Flintstone and Friends, it was retitled The Partridge Family In Outer Space. In October 2005, 2 restored episodes of Partridge Family 2200 A.D., "My Son, The Spaceball Star" and "Car Trouble", were included as bonuses on The Partridge Family: The Complete First Season DVD set.

Due to its ties to The Partridge Family, Partridge Family 2200 A.D. is one of two Hanna-Barbera produced shows that are currently distributed by Sony Pictures Television (whose predecessor, Screen Gems, produced the live-action show); Jeannie (an animated spinoff of I Dream of Jeannie) is the other.
