Parnelli

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Parnelli was a Formula One constructor from USA. They participated in 16 grands prix, entering a total of 16 cars. They scored 6 championship points.

The team was part owned by American United States Automobile Club racer Parnelli Jones and his business partner Velco Miletich.

Parnelli had already secured the services of ex-Team Lotus designer Maurice Philippe and driver Mario Andretti for USAC racing, and much was expected of the team when they made their F1 debut. The car in particular looked like it owed much to Philippe's Lotus 72. It appeared for the North American races at the end of the 1974 season and was gradually developed through 1975, although Firestone's decision to quit racing meant that a major partner was lost. Jones was more interested in competing in the USA and after a token appearance at the start of 1976 the team folded with Andretti returning to Lotus.
