Parliament of Western Australia
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Parliament of Western Australia consists of the Western Australian Legislative Council, the Western Australian Legislative Assembly and the Governor of Western Australia. The Parliament sits at Parliament House in Harvest Terrace, Perth.
For a bill to become law, it must be passed by both the Legislative Council and the Legislative Assesmbly and be assented to by the Governor.
The party or coalition with the most seats in the Legislative Assembly is invited by the Governor to form government. The head of government is the Premier of Western Australia.
Western Australia first obtained responsible government (having previously been ruled by a Governor and appointed officials) in 1890, its first premier (1890-1901) being John Forrest.
