[edit] School History

The early 1970s saw Gwinnett County lead the nation in growth. This phenomenal growth rate produced overcrowding in the school system leaving South Gwinnett and Berkmar too crowded to accommodate students. So, in 1975, construction began on a new school. With a clear view of Stone Mountain, the school assumed the name of Parkview. Today, the once uninterrupted view no longer exists. New neighborhoods, businesses, and trees have since obstructed the view. A panther was chosen as school mascot and orange and white became the school colors winning out over the very popular blue. The doors opened in 1976 with principal, Bartow Jenkins, at the helm.

The school eventually expanded until it was filled above capacity and then took over the adjacent middle school, Trickum Middle School to make more room for itself during the 2006-2007 school year.

[edit] Recent Events and Controversy

Boy's Soccer Coach Tracy Crouch was the manager of the 2005 championship team, but was removed from his position in 2006, after comments made to the media regarding his 2006 team. He claimed the returning members of the state championship team had grown complacent over their victory. He was temporarily replaced by Judson Hamby, who is now the Varsity Girl's manager. Now in charge of the Varsity boy's squad is Michael Tolmich. The 2007 season is his first year in charge of the Panthers.

Parkview Football Coach Cecil Flowe became the subject of controversy in spring 2006 after exhibiting suspicious behavior while chaperoning at the Prom, which led many to believe he had been under the influence of alcohol. An investigation was started by the Georgia High School Association, but Coach Flowe was not served with any punishment, as he was found to be using prescription medicine at the time which could have possibly accounted for his behavior.
