Park Place (Ontario)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Park Place is a park located at Ontario provincial highway 400 (exit 90) off Mapleview Drive (formerly Molson Park Drive) East in "the south end" of Barrie, Ontario, Canada. It is planned to become a "Lifestyle" centre, and received Ontario Management Board approval for development in November 2006 over the objections of Barrie City Council.

Originally named Molson Park, it was formerly owned by the Molson brewery plant located nearby. The plant has since been sold off. In 2004, the old plant was home to a marijuana grow-op that was raided by police.

Park Place is located across the street from the Barrie Molson Centre where the Barrie Colts of the Ontario Hockey League play. The park is also a popular open-air concert venue; it has hosted 102.1 The Edge's Edgefest, Lollapalooza, and The Van's Warped Tour rock festivals. On July 2, 2005, Park Place welcomed 35,000 spectators at the Canadian Live 8 concert.
