Parathrinaxodon ("near trident's teeth") is an extinct genus of a group of therapsids called cynodonts. It lived in the Latest Permian time (250 million years ago). Parathrinaxodon, as it name suggests was related to Thrinaxodon. However, Parathrinaxodon did not belong to the same family as Thrinaxodon (Thrinaxodontidae). Parathrinaxodon 's closest relatives were Nanocynodon and Procynosuchus. Like their relatives, it was probably a carnivore, hunting small reptiles and other tetrapods. Parathrinaxodon probably avoided its predators, by either running, hiding, or burrowing. The Parathrinaxodon became extinct by the great Permian-Triassic extinction event.
