[edit] Dentition

The paracone is the main cusp of molars of the upper dentition in hominids. On the right side of the mouth, it is found at the lingual mesial side of the tooth. The crests between cusps are evolutionary adaptations for slicing food during occlusion or mastication (chewing).

Other cusps of the upper dentition include the metacone, hypocone, and the protocone.
