Parables for Wooden Ears was the first album released by the Australian band Powderfinger. It was released on July 18, 1994 by Polydor Records.
In a November 2004 interview with Melbourne newspaper The Age, Powderfinger frontman Bernard Fanning recalled that the head of Polydor Records had described the album as "awful". In fact, the impetus behind the album's title was the band's belief that nobody would hear it. Only one song from the album - Sink Low - was included on their 2004 album, Fingerprints, a collection of songs from their first four releases. Despite the lack of commercial success of the album, the bands' live reputation grew with constant touring.
