I am not able to find the word kaitha in my sanskrit dictionary, although it lists many names of pandanus. The closest match is kaitaka.

Actually, a little bit of research shows that "kaitha" seems the current name of the pandanus flower in Malayalam, e.g., http://lakshadweep.nic.in/depts/forest/social_forestry.htm or http://www.hindunet.org/saraswati/Indian%20Lexicon/pandanus.htm . Of course this does not exclude it is valid in other languages, too.

Now, why is the plant lemma a Malayalam word? I suppose the "story of Brahma" mentioned in the article is written in Sanskrit. 84.189.149.177 23:16, 9 March 2006 (UTC)
