Panora, Iowa

Panora is a city in Guthrie County, Iowa, United States. The population was 1,175 at the 2000 census. Outside of Panora is Lake Panorama, a resort, housing development, recreation area and golf course.

Panora is located at GR1, along the Middle Raccoon River.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 1,175 people, 470 households, and 287 families residing in the city. The population density was 252.0/km² (652.1/mi²). There were 504 housing units at an average density of 108.1/km² (279.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 97.87% White, 0.43% African American, 0.09% Native American, 0.43% Pacific Islander, and 1.19% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.77% of the population.
There were 470 households out of which 29.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.1% were married couples living together, 8.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 38.9% were non-families. 33.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 19.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.32 and the average family size was 2.97.
In the city the population was spread out with 24.5% under the age of 18, 7.4% from 18 to 24, 24.5% from 25 to 44, 19.7% from 45 to 64, and 23.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 92.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 86.7 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $35,000, and the median income for a family was $41,583. Males had a median income of $28,558 versus $22,692 for females. The per capita income for the city was $15,510. About 4.8% of families and 10.0% of the population were below the poverty line, including 7.6% of those under age 18 and 14.9% of those age 65 or over.
