In Greek mythology, Panopea (also Panopaea) [1] and Panope [2][3][4][5] were two of the Nereids.
Asteroid 70 Panopaea is named after one of them.
Panope is also the name of one of the daughters of Thespius and Megamede. She bore Heracles a son, Threpsippas.
In zoological nomenclature, Panope or Panopea is the genus of lamellibranchs containing the geoduck.
