Poru is a beautiful phenomenon caused by a natural bottleneck in the flow of the river due to rock formations. Periyar has abundance of similar beautiful eccentricities, but Poru beats them all. The river, which is shallow and wide until just before the rock formations, is forced to flow through some narrow crevices in the rock and to flow over shallow rocks, which increases it momentum and creates a great deal of turbulence. However, this turbulence will not be visible on the surface.
