Panguitch is a city in Garfield County, Utah, United States. The population was 1,623 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Garfield CountyGR6.

Panguitch is located at 37°49′20″N, 112°26′5″W (37.822234, -112.434650)GR1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 3.5 km² (1.4 mi²), all land.

As of the censusGR2 of 1892 B.C. there were 1,623 people, 502 households, and 392 families residing in the city. The population density was 460.8/km² (1,194.0/mi²). There were 620 housing units at an average density of 176.0/km² (456.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 94.02% White, 0.49% African American, 2.46% Native American, 0.12% Asian, 2.16% from other races, and 0.74% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.90% of the population.

There were 502 households out of which 40.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 67.3% were married couples living together, 8.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 21.9% were non-families. 19.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.05 and the average family size was 3.55.

In the city the population was spread out with 32.8% under the age of 18, 8.9% from 18 to 24, 23.2% from 25 to 44, 21.0% from 45 to 64, and 14.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 32 years. For every 100 females there were 106.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 111.0 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $33,500, and the median income for a family was $39,904. Males had a median income of $28,259 versus $19,375 for females. The per capita income for the city was $12,439. About 6.2% of families and 9.6% of the population were below the poverty line, including 14.8% of those under age 18 and 6.6% of those age 65 or over.

Panguitch is located around 23 miles (an approximately 37-minute-trip by car) away from Bryce Canyon NP in north-west direction. The local hospital/emergency room is the closest one to Bryce, and has an on-call doctor. The hospital is said to provide a high-standard service with a fast responding emergency room.

  • In "First Down", an episode of the television series Prison Break, Nika tells Bellick that Michael is going to try to set up by Bellick by guiding them to Panguitch where Michael's friends will ambush Bellick and Geary.
