Pando (unit)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Pando is an informal unit of length or distance most commonly used as a rough guide to the dimensions of a room, living space or other dwelling or building. One Pando is defined as six feet, or alternatively, the approximate height of an average man.
In common use in South West England amongst home buyers and estate agents[1], the Pando is used when estimating the size of rooms, as most people often find it more straightforward to relate distances to the size of a well known object. In this case, the object is a man and the size is his height. Rather than attempt to visualise the dimensions of a room from a description such as 32' 6" long by 24' wide, it is easier to imagine this area being defined as approximately 5 Pandos long and 4 Pandos wide. Knowing that a Pando is approximately the height of a man, the true size of the room is more easily pictured.
