[edit] History

The band began with four boys, Pepe, Riki, Ongi and Kross, who had joined to write songs on topics such as love, friends, partying, and youth. They produced sufficient material to compile a demo, and with it acquired a contract with a local indie record label called Movic Records.

In 2001, they released their first album, entitled Arroz con Leche, which was relatively unpopular among the local people and media. However, with their 2003 follow-up, La Revancha del Principe Charro, the group began gaining popularity.

They toured in Mexico and the United States. After a prolonged break, Panda began recording their next album. It was then that Ongi left them. They replaced him with a friend of the band, Arturo Arredondo, who had already played with Kross in another local group, Super Azfalto, and whose abilities were well-known to the band members.

A third album, Para ti con desprecio, was released in 2005. It is their most popular album to date in Mexico and Latin America. The singles that are most well-known include "Cita en el Quirofano", "Cuando no es como deberia ser" and "Disculpa los malos pensamientos".

On November 25-26/2006, they tapped they first DVD on "El Auditorio Nacional" on Mexico.

They are touring, and had released a new single, "Los Malaventurados no Lloran".

[edit] Criticism

According to some websites the band has been involved in alleged plagiarism of music and lyrics from bands such as My Chemical Romance and Fall Out Boy. However, Panda insists that their songs are original, and no legal action against them has been taken to date[citation needed]. An example of this can be seen between the lyrics in Panda's song Miedo a las Alturas and My Chemical Romance's It's Not A Fashion Statement, It's A Deathwish, where Panda's Lyrics:

y de la muerte yo regresare y te buscare (and from death I will return and search for you)
te llevare conmigo de regreso y recuperare (I will take you back with me and recover)
la vida me robaste vida se va eso me ayuda a pensar (the life you stole from me, life goes away that helps me think)
aquellas luces brillantes no me mataran (those bright lights will not kill me)

Bear, according to these websites, a striking resemblance to My Chemical Romance's Lyrics:

I'm coming back from the dead and I'll take you home with me
I'm taking back the life you stole
We never got that far,
this helps me to think all through the night
bright lights that, won't kill me now [1][2][3][4]
