Panda is a character in the Tekken fighting game series. She is, as her name implies, a Giant Panda. She is the loyal pet, best friend, and bodyguard of Ling Xiaoyu. She has the same fighting style as Kuma, Heihachi Mishima's pet grizzly bear. Kuma seems to have a crush on Panda. Like Xiaoyu, Panda made her debut in Tekken 3.

[edit] History

[edit] Tekken 3

Panda is cared for at Ling Xiaoyu's high school. To participate in the tournament, Xiaoyu moved to the Mishima Polytechnical School in Japan. Heihachi taught Panda "Advanced Bear Fighting" so that she could act as a bodyguard for Xiaoyu during the tournament. Although Kuma is fond of Panda, Panda dislikes him and keeps her distance.

[edit] Tekken 4

Panda is given her own story. In this story, it chronicles Panda as missing Kuma somewhat, and throughout her prologue, she is seen thinking about Kuma. In her Tekken 4 ending, she hands over control of the Mishima Zaibatsu to Xiaoyu, and then she calls Xiaoyu over to an abandoned wrestling ring. She then explains to Xiaoyu that she has decided to search for Kuma on her own and wishes for Xiaoyu to do the same with Jin Kazama.

[edit] Tekken 5

After the conclusion of The King of Iron Fist Tournament 4, Ling Xiaoyu had been feeling depressed. Panda thought long and hard about how she could make Xiaoyu happy again. Panda decided that the best approach would be to find Jin Kazama. Panda searched for Jin, but she was unable to find him. One day, Xiaoyu came to her excited. "Panda, I've decided to enter The King of Iron Fist Tournament 5, and I need your help once again". Panda didn't quite understand Xiaoyu's reason for entering the tournament, but she decided to help if it would make her happy.

[edit] Tekken: Dark Resurrection

Panda wins the tournament, and seems to have taken control of the Mishima Zaibatzu. As she stamps a document, a suited man who bears resemblance to Lee Chaolan, tells Panda that Kuma is arriving, and asks her how she would like to proceed. She tells Lee to let Kuma in, and Lee replies "right away". The doors open, and Kuma arrives with flowers. Kuma says "(My lovely honey! My feelings for you finally got through to you!)" As Kuma approaches the desk, Panda presses a red button that activates a floor trap, sending Kuma down below. Lee gives Panda a thumbs-up. At that moment, Ling Xiaoyu arrives, saying hello to Panda, and asking her bodyguard how she was. Xiaoyu wonders what the button does, so she might press the red button.... unfortunately, that doesn't happen. Xiaoyu curiously presses another button on the desk, which is blue, saying "we'll find out!" This time, Panda falls below, chair and all. Xiaoyu puts her index finger pointing towards her lips, tilts her head to her left and asks "Panda?" Lee gives a thumbs-up to Xiaoyu.

[edit] Trivia

  • Panda's prologue and epilogue cannot be unlocked merely by beating the game with Kuma. The player must play through the game with her to unlock them.
  • Panda has always been a palette swap for Kuma Jr., but her endings are always (in some way) different than Kuma Jr.'s endings.
  • In Tekken 5 and Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection, when Panda comes face to face with Kuma, her Stage Four sub-boss, Kuma confesses his love and proposes to Panda, who is quick to reject the proposal, claiming that she is too old for him and that she doesn't feel that way.
