Panagiotis Fasoulas

Panagiotis Fasoulas (Greek: Παναγιώτης Φασούλας; born May 12, 1963 in Thessaloniki, Greece) Nicknamed "the spider" (Greek: αράχνη) is a Greek former professional basketball player. During his professional career he played for PAOK BC and Olympiacos BC - with whom he won a European title in 1997. He was also a member of the Greek national team, where he was the starting center during Greece's 1987 Eurobasket victory. Fasoulas was also entered in the 1986 NBA Draft after a U.S. college career at North Carolina State.
One of the best big men in European basketball in the last 20 years. In Toronto, Canada, at the 1994 World Championship when Greece won the fourth place he played the best basketball of his career. A very charismatic personality, Fasoulas has now become a politician with the political party PASOK and was contributing to the organisation of the Olympic games in Athens in 2004. He was elected Mayor of Piraeus (October 15, 2006).
