Pan de Azúcar is a city located to the West of the department of Maldonado, 23 Km. away from the capital city, Maldonado. Its population, as of 2004, is 6,969. It was founded in 1874 by Félix de Lizarza, who counted with the help of inhabitants from the city of San Carlos.
The city takes its name from a nearby hill, topped by a huge cross.
