Talk:Pamela Anderson

[edit] Image
Why do we have a portrait of her instead of a photo? Photos just make more sense. In fact, they're more NPOV. Shakeer 03:13, 29 Mar 2004 (UTC)
- (wryly) You try finding a photo of her that satisfies our licences. See Wikipedia:Copyrights and Wikipedia:Images for more info on what images we're allowed to use under copyright law. Yours, Meelar 03:21, 29 Mar 2004 (UTC)
-
- Now that we do have a photo, we don't need the "portrait" anymore. Lupo 15:57, 5 Sep 2004 (UTC)
-
-
- Of course, the person who had re-included the "portrait" wanted to know why I had removed it. Here's my reasoning (copied from my talk page): I do think that these "portraits" of T.Ho are of poor quality. They do not give the reader (or viewer, as it were) an adequate, realistic idea of how the person portrayed looks like. In articles where Wikipedia doesn't (yet) have a real photo of a person, using one of T.Ho's graphics may be all right—it may be better than no image at all. But once an article gets a real picture of the person, these artworks serve no purpose anymore. Wikipedia is not the place to showcase somebody's artistic skills, and realistic photos are to be preferred over artistic portraits in an encyclopedia whereever possible. Art, by its very nature, embodies the personal preferences of the artist and is less objective than a photograph. True, a photographer also composes an image and decides how s/he wants to depict a subject, but still I do believe that photographs are more neutral, realistic, and generally more suitable for use in an encyclopedia. For these reasons, I had removed T.Ho's portrait of Pamela Anderson, for that article has a real photograph. (Moreover, one that is purported to be in the public domain, whereas there is no clear licensing information for T.Ho's portrait.) Lupo 07:12, 6 Sep 2004 (UTC)

[edit] birthplace
According to IMDB, she was born in Vancouver Island. I don't know the geography of Canada but should we include that? --Hemanshu 21:10, 4 Aug 2004 (UTC)
if anybody ever does click on the link to find out where she is from, they will quickly find out that her town was on Vancouver island. it is correct as listed. (town, province, country). --jonasaurus 02:24, 14 July 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Category:Porn stars
Does she really qualify as a "porn star"? Having a personal home video released without permission could happen to anyone... —Tregoweth 02:43, Oct 4, 2004 (UTC)
i agree. porn star is not an accurate term. i will go ahead and fix that. --jonasaurus 02:24, 14 July 2005 (UTC)
But she's been in Playboy for 17 years... VolatileChemical 13:33, 14 May 2006 (UTC)
Playboy is not porn. Wahkeenah 14:36, 14 May 2006 (UTC)
- I would argue with that. Playboy is a 'soft-core' pornographic publication. Its sale to minors is restricted I believe. Having said that, I believe a "porn star" to be a person who has made a career out of the porn industry, rather than a celebrity who has cashed in by accepting offers from a pornographic magazine. --Mal 05:25, 17 May 2006 (UTC)
Who cares if playboy is pron or not! Pamela Amderson is still pretty damn sexy! Anyone disagree?
[edit] Gay Icon Project
In my effort to merge the now-deleted list from the article Gay icon to the Gay icons category, I have added this page to the category. I engaged in this effort as a "human script", adding everyone from the list to the category, bypassing the fact-checking stage. That is what I am relying on you to do. Please check the article Gay icon and make a judgment as to whether this person or group fits the category. By distributing this task from the regular editors of one article to the regular editors of several articles, I believe that the task of fact-checking this information can be expedited. Thank you very much. Philwelch 20:03, 24 Mar 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Barbara Rose Kopetski?
The German Wikipedia says that her original name is "Barbara Rose Kopetski". Is this true? -- nyenyec ☎ 16:54, 8 August 2005 (UTC)
No. Barbara Kopetski is the name of her character in the 1996 movie "Barb Wire"! Wahkeenah 17:38, 8 August 2005 (UTC)
-
- Funny vandals started this and have apparently had more success in the German section.--Noitall 20:09, August 21, 2005 (UTC)
I wasn't sure if it was true vandalism or stupidity. Would it give them too much credit to assume it's a bit of both? Meanwhile, I wonder if the German Wikipedia also says Hitler's real name was Schickelgruber, and that he weren't no delinquent, he was just misunderstood? :) Wahkeenah 20:20, 21 August 2005 (UTC)
Just to let you know: the german wikipedia has already changed that mistake. (http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pamela_Anderson) And your "funny" jokes about the german history and their huge historical responsibility just show, how ignorant you are! If you don't know anything about the way the germans are trying to cope with their history (and it's clear that you don't even have an idea how complicate and hard it is for the new generation of germans), you should just shut up - cause you've been really offending!!!!
You don't even get the joke, son, so take your own advice. Wahkeenah 19:21, 13 September 2005 (UTC)
So that's what you call a joke?
First, I'm not making fun of Germany, I'm making fun of German stereotypes. The part about the "delinquent" is lifted from some dialogue in the unrelated musical play "West Side Story", and that was the joke. I am very well aware of the crushing burden that Hitler's little adventure placed upon the German people. Secondly, since you're only an IP address, get back to me if and when you get a real logon. Wahkeenah 17:28, 14 September 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Square corner left
what does this expresson "there's not a square corner left anywhere in my house" mean? i am sorry if this is a stupid question.
She was hinting at a masturbation technique, that being her only outlet due to not having dated for awhile as of the time of that interview. I think it paints an awesome mental picture. :) Wahkeenah 20:17, 21 August 2005 (UTC)
- She masturbates with square corners? I don't get the joke either and agree that it should be explained more.--Rotten 02:23, 15 September 2006 (UTC)
- Can anyone provide verification that this is what she meant, and that it left "the usually unflappable Letterman speechless and red-faced for a moment"? I vaguely remember that show, and IIRC Letterman seemed to me to be befuddled, not embarassed, apparently not knowing what the hell she was talking about. If this factoid cannot be independently verified, it should be removed.
- I remember her hawking her book. She readily admitted that it was written by a ghost writer, and I got the impression she hadn't actually read the book herself!
I reworded it to take away the jump to conclusions about Letterman's reaction. Maybe you're right that Letterman didn't follow what she was getting at, but it's more likely he was just reacting that way to keep things safe, as he will sometimes do when a guest might be treading on "dangerous" ground, and in any case it was clear as a bell otherwise. Wahkeenah 13:44, 25 September 2005 (UTC) P.S. Speaking of not knowing what the hell someone is talking about, what the hell does IIRC stand for?
- If I remember correctly, the answer is listed here: List_of_internet_slang#I
The incident as it is described in the article still doesn't meet verifiability standards. Her statement is vague enough that if you say she was painting a "mental picture", you ought to inform readers what that picture is, which leads to the problem: how do you know what she meant? And can you verify it?
- Jesus H. Christ! Do you want I should draw you a picture? Only an idiot would fail to understand what she meant. Wahkeenah 14:50, 28 September 2005 (UTC)
-
- Only an idiot would fail to understand Wikipedia policies. Or a 14 year-old. I suspect you are both.
-
-
- OK, smart guy, in order to comply with "Wikipedia policies", then you need to cite every freakin' line in that writeup. Get started! Now! Move it! Wahkeenah 02:58, 30 September 2005 (UTC)
-
I have absolutely no clue what the square corner comment is alluding to. How is it related to masterbation? There must have been more that was said, this doesn't make sense at all as is. VegaDark 08:41, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Edit needs to be made
In the sentence "Anderson has also had relationships with Scott Baio, "Baywatch" co-star David Charvet, and musician Bret Michaels of the band Poison" the word Baywatch should be in italics since it's the name of a television series per the MoS. Could some admin fix that? thanks, Dismas 23:46, 8 September 2005 (UTC)
- While the admin is at it, he should add the es: interwiki, es:Pamela Anderson (must suck to be an admin these days :P)--Orgullomoore 20:23, 20 September 2005 (UTC)
Go ahead and edit, I just unprotected. --Tony SidawayTalk 17:31, 21 September 2005 (UTC)
- Yee-hah! Let the vandalism resume! Poor Pamela has been targeted more often than Dennis Miller. However, most of those vandals are boobs. Wahkeenah 17:49, 21 September 2005 (UTC)
"A pornographic home video of Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee was stolen from their home, and made a huge stir on the Internet. Anderson sued an Internet company that was distributing the video, and some media sources reported that she settled the case for $10 million."
Can anyone add the date when this happened?
- Well, frames from the stolen video were published in Penthouse magazine's March 1998 issue, if that helps any. Wahkeenah 08:00, 24 September 2005 (UTC)
Oh, and how in the world can THOSE be a mere 36 inches in measurement? c'mon, is this accurate?? 70.108.99.51 21:32, 4 December 2005
- That was probably the pre-enhanced version. Wahkeenah 21:51, 4 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Pam Anderson, Beauty, and Chickens
Pam Anderson first came to the attention of many people as the Tool Time Girl on the popular television series Home Improvement. Pam Anderson has been featured on the cover of Playboy more times than any other Playboy Playmate. Pam Anderson married the band Motley Crue, this was proven when her home sex videos were stolen and shown on the Internet. It is reported that in her bedroom Pam Anderson had a pole used by strippers, so they can show off their sexual abilities in different positions. Pam Anderson did the short lived cartoon series Stripperella (the story of a secret agent stripper with sexual villains). Pam Anderson belongs to the Valley of the Dolls (women in the entertainment industry who make a living by beauty and dress up despite age or deformity, and there is a 1980s film of the same name). Pam Anderson proved she belongs in the beauty only category of the entertainment industry by supporting "chickens" as her PETA (pet environmental people) project. That is right, the stupid birds grandma and grandpa grew before refrigeration became popular that were so dumb they could drown when it rained, and defecated everywhere as a kept animal--grandma spent many hours cleaning those chicken coops, so the animals would not pass on by their own diseases to put food on the table. Chickens civil rights are important to Pam Anderson (I believed she lost a bet, but then she did that public television announcement for chickens).
Pam Anderson is one of those Hollywood women who need the stereotypical Hollywood party: lots of nakedness, sex, and weirdness just like some of the 1970s films trying to be controversial about Hollywood.
Pam Anderson: Playmate, VIP girl, Baywatch Girl, Motley Crue popular cheerleader, and Chicken supporter. Pam Anderson does possess physical beauty, but you decide.
[edit] Centennial Baby?
Sorry Pam fans, but I was born two hours before Ms. Anderson on the very same Canada Day in 1967. Now I can't prove that noone was born in the two hours before my arrival, it is a fact that Pamela Anderson is NOT the first. Here's my story from the Campbell River Upper Islander, July 5 1967: http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d59/mramone/canada%20day%20baby/westcoast001.jpg So could someone please update the article? Thank you
How could she possibly be the first baby born in Canada on Centennial Day if she was born at 8 minutes past midnight Pacific Standard Time?
I agree. Makes no sense. July 1, 1967 would have arrived in Newfoundland first, then made its way across the country toward the west coast. There must have been hundreds of babies born before she was.
---July 1 is independence day, not centenial day--- unknown editor User:24.54.135.50 01:37 and 01:38, 5 May 2006 (UTC)
- July 1, 1967, was the centennial of Canadian independence. As to whether she was actually the first centennial baby, I couldn't say, I weren't there, eh? Wahkeenah 02:11, 5 May 2006 (UTC)
- Her own site (once you get past the slow-mo animation lead-ins) has a bio which claims her parents won some kind of award for having the first Canada centennial baby. Who are we to argue? Wahkeenah 02:17, 5 May 2006 (UTC)
- Her site currently calls her a Centennial Baby, but does not claim she was THE Centennial Baby. In fact, neither does the clipping recently posted, it just says he was the first in that community... which stands to reason, given that it was 2:00 PST, several hours past midnight on the east coast, which is probably where the Centennial Baby was born, whoever it might have been. Wahkeenah 06:32, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
- Her own site (once you get past the slow-mo animation lead-ins) has a bio which claims her parents won some kind of award for having the first Canada centennial baby. Who are we to argue? Wahkeenah 02:17, 5 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Square Corner Revealed
Took me a while to figure it out. Then I realized that, quite literally, one must think outside the box. I don't just mean that as a double entendre - it has three distinct meanings, and when you know all three, you will have the answer. God I'm so fucking smart. I AM SO FUCKING SMART. 70.177.90.238 22:24, 22 January 2006 (UTC)
- Okay, I admit it, I have no idea what she's talking about. Can someone explain, or edit the article so it explains? -- nae'blis (talk) 20:41, 31 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] "Animal-rights activist"
Maybe she is an insincere celebrity "activist", but the woman did receive PETA's major honor. Why shouldn't we have the category, and whatever evidence of her insincerity in fur activism etc.--Pharos 22:23, 22 February 2006 (UTC)
- She's not an activist of any kind. Please find a source saying she is an "animal rights activist". SlimVirgin (talk) 22:51, 22 February 2006 (UTC)
- Pamela Anderson : ardente avocate des animaux. This article is from the French chapter of PETA.--Pharos 22:56, 22 February 2006 (UTC)
-
- It doesn't say activist. I'm curious to know why you're doing this. You must know she's not an animal-rights activist, especially if you're having to go to the non-English speaking press to find a source. If she were, you'd find sources galore in American newspapers. SlimVirgin (talk) 22:58, 22 February 2006 (UTC)
- An advocate does not an activist make. Nor does a spokesperson, necessarily. Postdlf 23:07, 22 February 2006 (UTC)
- According to the Wikipedia article on activism, it can take a wide range of forms, from writing letters to newspapers or politicians, simply shopping ethically, rallies and street marches, direct action, or even guerrilla tactics. There is no fixed definition of activism and noone can deny that PA's efforts have had a good effect on at least some people's attitudes which is the main purpose of activism. Arniep 23:18, 22 February 2006 (UTC)
- Please don't asume I "know she's not an animal-rights activist". The headline is "Pamela Anderson: an ardent advocate for animals" and the first line starts "Everywhere animals are in danger, they can count on Pamela Anderson...". I don't see how that is not saying she is an animal-rights activist. I chose the link just because it is rather high praise of her from a major animal rights organization, and gives a general history of her involvement as well. I realize there'a a major difference between on-the-ground activists and "celebrity activists", and some "celebrity activists" may be more interested in publicity than any genuine concern, but their status as such is significant if it is recognized by major advocacy groups. There are of course many sources in American media (which of course is rather celebrity-centric) calling her an activist, such as CNN and the AP.--Pharos 00:01, 23 February 2006 (UTC)
- In case people are unaware of this SlimVirgin used as basis for removing the cat (from my talk page) that PA had:
-
-
- once appeared in an ad about fur, but who has worn and advertised fur since then.
-
-
-
- and
-
-
-
- the incident is well known and the animal-rights movement is disgusted by her.
-
-
-
- I asked her to provide evidence for this but she said she doesn't have the source to hand. Arniep 00:32, 23 February 2006 (UTC)

- Pamela Anderson submitted to a Comedy Central Roast to benefit PETA [1]
Removing the last sentence from: "Anderson is a strict vegetarian, engages herself for animal protection, and is an active member of the animal protection organization People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). In fact, as Jay Leno once pointed out, she has been observed kissing a snake." Kissing snakes is not a part of PETA's agenda that I am aware of. Lee Bailey 20:01, 3 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] was this written by a 5y/o?
1. This article states right out of the blue that Pamela had a miscarriage. Do people just have those on rainy days? WHY did she have a miscarriage and most importantly, WITH WHO?? In this article it's like "one day she took her dog for a walk, had a miscaariage and then watered her plants." This needs at least a whole paragraph of explanantion.
2. This article suddenly starts refering to "Lee". Once again, out of the blue... my psychic powers aren't working today. Now personally, I know who Tommy Lee is, but shouldn't someone mention a few words of his background before just saying "she got Hepititis from Lee. Period."? There is no mention before this of who "lee" is or how they came to be together.
- Those are valid editing concerns (mostly due to poor organization, I believe), {{sofixit}}... Postdlf 06:15, 21 March 2006 (UTC)
- I don't think Pam would be all that appealing to a 5 year old. More like 12 or 13. Wahkeenah 13:54, 21 March 2006 (UTC)
As much as I love and adore Pamela, this is still a public site. Shouldnt any explicit images be removed? User:Drumdude 16:40, 22 April 2006 (UTC)
- Done. The copyright-violating image was due to be deleted by the wiki swat team sometime today in any case. Also had to fix earlier vandalized spelling of her middle name, which no one caught (including me). Wahkeenah 16:55, 22 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Size chart?
I agree, this article is quite hard to follow. A chart tracking bust size over the years would be very helpful. Ghosts&empties 09:08, 24 April 2006 (UTC)
- Awesome idea. It would be interesting to see if it rises and falls in apparent correlation to some other commodity, such as the price of melons. Wahkeenah 09:13, 24 April 2006 (UTC)
Howabout a separate wikipedia page on her breasts, evolution over time, (she's done over a doszen issues of playboy, so not a hard thing to track). And how epic would that be? just a thought :)
- What's stopping you from doing it? Wahkeenah 16:08, 9 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Clarification
If her paternal grandfather was named Juho Hyytiäinen, that means her father's surname(and her maiden name)would also be Hyytiäinen. Is Anderson her mother's surname or did her father/grandfather changed surname. Can someone clarify?
Juho changed his last name to Anderson after arriving in Canada.

[edit] Original Version
Pamela Anderson Original Version Biography.
[edit] The fact she accompanied Diesel instead of Shawn Michaels
Under the pro wrestling section, it says she was supposed to accompany the winner of the Royal Rumble (the challenger for the world title). Then it naturally said she accompanied the world champion instead. When I emphasized the fact that there was a switch and even explained why, someone sabotaged the page and deleted it all. Please do something. It makes absolutely no sense deleting this (especially the emphasis) as even originally it says she was supposed to accompany someone else!
[edit] Image:Barb Wire.jpg
This image, a publicity still of Anderson as "Barb Wire" that I had uploaded, has been disputed as fair use and tagged as unsourced. Why whomever has a problem with this image in this article has not actually posted that here is beyond me, but if the regular contributors to this article would like this image to stay, please address these concerns. I have no further information about it. Postdlf 18:00, 21 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Borat
Why does someone keep wasting space to say that she was in the movie Borat? This is not a current events page it is a encyclopedia. It seems that in the big picture it is not important. I don't understand why nerds continue to rush on Wikipedia to list things that are "current events" like they are contributing anything of value.
-
- Because she was in the movie? It is, in fact, a part of her career and life. 70.162.66.142 16:23, 28 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Home town
It says she was born in ladysmith near north of naniamo north east of victoria. I think we can simply eliminate nanaimo from here, I mean I'm from anmore which is near port moody which is near burnaby which is near to vancouver but I would never tell anyone that. [edit] Ethnicity
If she was born in Canada she is Canadian. Her kids born in America would be Canadian-American. I would edit this, but she may have become an American citizen and am not sure if this is what is meant by prior editors. TonyTheTiger 22:33, 17 February 2007 (UTC)
-
- I'm not sure what you are refering to exactly, but I think it is nationality, not ethnicity. Anderson supposedly holds dual citizenship. Are you taking issue with her being described as "Canadian American" in the text of the article? Note that there is some debate as to who should be included in the category "Canadian American." --Vbd | (talk) 02:40, 19 February 2007 (UTC)
-
-
- Yes that is my point. I contest both Canadian American and all the American categories. TonyTheTiger 04:07, 4 March 2007 (UTC)
-
-
- If you contest to "Canadian American", then she would more accurately be described as just "American", rather than "Canadian". After all, she is a US citizen and lives full time in the US.--Wendox34 21:18, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
Her official site Bio states she is Canadian
- Hence the hyphenated "Canadian-American".
[edit] Recent edit
I deleted this sentence: "Pamela is currently in a relationship with Irish Heart throb and playboy Simon Mc Feely" for the following reasons: 1)WP:NPOV -- referring to McFeely as a "heart throb" is inappropriate for an encyclopedia; 2)WP:ATT -- no reliable, verifiable source provided to support this statement; 3)WP:LEAD -- this doesn't belong in the lead paragraph. I would have moved it to the "personal life" section, but I still had a problem with #2, above. --Vbd (talk) 16:03, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Her birthplace is ok because......
I just wanted to address... an earlier post ( way earlier like from 2004)
That in my opinion... and geographicaly, Pam's birthplace is fine, because while her birthplace might be on "Vancouver island" .... its not a seperate canadian province.... its still part of Brittish Columbia, all it is is a little island of the coast of brittish colombia which is still smack dab close.
[edit] Vegan or Vegetarian
On the website http://www.vegansociety.com/html/people/lifestyle/celebrities.php it quotes here as being vegan but in the article it says she is vegetarian.
