Palnitkar

Palnitkar is one of the many last names used a certain subcaste of Brahmins in India. This subcaste is called Konkanastha Chitpavan.

Palnitkars as most of the Konkanastha Chitpavan Brahmins originate in the Konkan strip located on western seacoast of India about 300-500 miles south of Mumbai. However, Palnitkars have now migrated to almost all the corners of the world.

A large majority of Palnitkars still live in city of Pune and Mumbai in Maharashtra state of India, but there are instances of Palnitkars in cities of Bangalore, Baroda, Hyderabad, Nagpur and many others. Many Palnitkars have also visited foreign countries, settled there and are living there.

About 60 KM outside Mumbai, off Mumbai-Pune Expressway, near Panvel, there is a small village/town named Mohopada. This is where most of the Palnitkars trace their roots to. There is a very old (about 300 yrs.) temple of Shiwa just outside Mohopada that was build by then Palnitkars (mostly the 1st one).
