[edit] Pluralist electorate

The 'old' electorate of Palmerston North under the "first past the post" system included the city of Palmerston North, except the suburbs of Roslyn and Palmerston North Hospital Area and the southern bank of the Manawatu River (which were part of the Manawatu electorate).

[edit] Mixed Member Proportional electorate

The 'new' electorate of Palmerston North includes the city of Palmerston North, except the suburbs of Cloverlea, Milson, Kelvin Grove, Whakarongo and Ashhurst, however it does include Linton, Aokautere, Turitea and Massey University.

The latter were once part of the electorate of Manawatu, however with the advent of the introduction of Mixed Member Proportional (MMP) elections, the boundaries were redrawn.
