Palliser Furniture
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Palliser Furniture Ltd. was established in 1944. Abram Albert DeFehr, a Russian born immigrant to Canada, began making simple wooden pieces in the basement of his Winnipeg home. Palliser's first furniture factory began a few years later in an old chicken barn.
Today, Palliser is one of Canada’s leading home furniture manufacturers. It employs over 2000 people and has manufacturing facilities in Canada, US, Mexico, and outsources some manufacturing to Thailand and China.
It is headquartered in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
Recently Palliser Furniture has been split into several smaller companies, each specializing in one sector of the furniture industry due to market demands and in-family corporate restructuring. These fractions are owned primarily by the grandchildren of A.A. DeFehr. Palliser Furniture (and it's subsidiary companies) is owned primarily by Art DeFehr.
Previously Palliser was known for it's generosity and commitment to community, this reputation has being strained by profitability issues due to intense competition in the global furniture market. While still keeping some manufacturing in Winnipeg, much of Palliser's product is manufactured in Asia and Mexico.
