Palestine Times
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Palestine Times is the only English language daily Palestinian newspaper. It is a family-owned business with its main office in Ramallah, Palestine. It was initially distributed all over the West Bank (including East Jerusalem) and the Gaza Strip. On March 13, 2007 the paper signed a contract with BAR, the Israeli newspaper distribution company, and is now available in Israel too. [1]
The paper was founded in November 2006. Its editor-in-chief is Othman Fakhri Mohammed. It's stated aim is to reflect all aspects of Palestinian life accurately to the world. It receives no funding from any Palestinian political party or faction, and aims to be independent. It is funded by advertising, subscriptions and sales.[citation needed]
Among the notable journalists working for the paper are Khalid Amayreh, who writes for the paper in English. Almost all of the paper's journalistic contributors are Palestinians. The paper is not a translation edition, since no Arabic version exists. In this respect, the paper is more similar to the Jerusalem Post than Ha'aretz. However, a significant percentage of the paper's stories are translated from Arabic original copy in-house.
A monthly news website of the same name was previously established at www.ptimes.org . It is not associated with the daily paper.
