Palavakkam is a census town in Kancheepuram district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

It is located on the East Coast Road about 6 km south of Adyar.

As of 2001 India censusGRIndia, Palavakkam had a population of 14,369. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Palavakkam has an average literacy rate of 74%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 78%, and female literacy is 68%. After adayar there is no petrol station in east coast road till palavakkam. There was one Petrol station (petrol bung) ever since i moved to palavakkam(1991) that use to be the busiest of that area and back in 1999 there was an other Petrol station opened just opposite to the old one, (which took over the old bungs business, that’s an other story we are not looking on it now) so now there is two petrol bungs in palavakkam.

The Vegetable and the Fish market were use to be on the public road, which a caused heavy traffic jam and regular road accident in East cost road, but after year 2001, DMK government has opened a new and convenient market in VGP layout, which was bit interior to the peoples who lived on the other side of the road but they got use to it.

In Palavakkam, there is one government owned school and many Private owned schools are running. The government school is till year 10, thereafter the students have to choose either any private schools in palavakkam or travel to the near by schools, which are no less than 3 miles.

Manuel Mony matriculation Hr Sec School is one of the well-known and successfully running private school in palvakkam for the past 31 years.

There is two main Hindu temples, one main islamic mosque and two Churches in palavakkam.

St. Anthony's Shrine The St.Anthony's seashore shrine is one of the Famous Churches in Chennai that draws abundant crowd during Festive Seasons. This St.Anthony's shrine has 100 Feet Eucharistic Tower that has Exquisite artwork embedded into it.
