From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Palmyra panorama composition. Shot March 20th 2005 shortly after sunrise between 5 and 6 AM by Zelidar.

Location of the original picture along with many more images of Palmyra.

Palmyra is one of the few places worldwide where you can use the sheer size of the site to really immerse yourself inside another age. Since my first visit back in 2003 I have become extremely attentive to past civilizations, the fact that men and women have lived for several centuries in organized societies with little or only minor technical progresses. So much different with ours where nobody knows how it will be just a mere 20 years in the future from today. One example, let us just think about our world without petrol.
